Hills M2 Motorway - Transurban MeetingPDF (800 kb) of the presentation given by BN to Transurban on Jan 17. Bike North participated in a meeting with Transurban and the RTA on Wedesday 17/1/2007 to discuss the proposed alternate route. Transurban took the time to listen to all of our concerns and our proposals and we believe they were well received. In our opinion Transurban have underestimated the amount of work required to get the proposed route up to the standard required for a regional cycle route but feel confident that they are now much better informed of cyclists needs. It was made clear to us that the proposed alternate route is only an interim measure and that Transurban is developing plans to physically widen the affected section of the motorway. Although this is a matter of priority it will be at least a year before any work begins and depending on what work is involved it could be a number of years before the work is complete. Bike North made it clear to Transurban that given the length of time the alternate route might be in operation it was important that it be at the highest possible standard. Bike North put forward five options for other alternate routes. None of the which will affect the proposed addition of the extra westbound lane or impact the westbound afternoon peak on the M2. We hope to meet with Transurban again once they have had time to review our proposals.
